Job Summary:
The EHS Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and implementing the organization’s environmental, health, and safety programs. This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, promotes a strong safety culture, and drives continuous improvement in workplace safety and environmental stewardship. The EHS Supervisor provides guidance, training, and support to employees and supervisors to maintain a safe, healthy, and compliant workplace.
Key Responsibilities:
Health & Safety
- Monitor, enforce, and continuously improve occupational health and safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular workplace inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
- Investigate incidents, near-misses, and injuries, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Lead and support safety committees, toolbox talks, and training sessions.
- Maintain safety documentation, records, and reports as required by legislation and company policy.
Environmental Compliance
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations (waste management, emissions, spill response, etc.).
- Monitor and manage environmental programs such as recycling, waste reduction, and sustainability initiatives.
- Coordinate environmental reporting and audits.
Training & Development
- Deliver training on safety procedures, emergency response, hazard identification, and environmental compliance.
- Support supervisors and managers in promoting a proactive safety culture.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Supervise EHS technicians, coordinators, or specialists (if applicable).
- Act as a liaison with regulatory agencies, contractors, and external auditors.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate EHS into operations and projects.
- Assist in the Health and safety evaluation of new machinery and make recommendations to Management to make new equipment safer.
- Lead Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee and Environmental Committee
Qualifications & Skills:
- Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field.
- Minimum 3–5 years of EHS experience, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Strong knowledge of local and federal occupational health & safety and environmental regulations.
- Professional certifications (CRSP, CSP, CHSC, CIH, or equivalent) considered an asset.
- Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving and leadership abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Office and EHS management systems.
Working Conditions:
- Primarily plant floor and field environment, with some office work.
- May require use of PPE, working at heights, or confined space entry.
- Occasional travel to other sites or for training.
- Availability for on-call response to emergencies.
Performance Metrics:
- Reduction in incidents, injuries, and environmental non-compliances.
- Completion and effectiveness of training programs.
- Timeliness and accuracy of reporting and documentation.
- Employee engagement and participation in safety initiatives.
- Audit and inspection scores.
