General Job Description
The Paint Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing all engineering functions within the Paint department at TG Minto Corporation. This role requires a professional approach to managing day-to-day operations, with a strong emphasis on safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. As a leader, you are expected to maintain high productivity levels while ensuring a safe working environment. Your ability to strategically plan and effectively utilize manpower and equipment directly impacts production costs and, ultimately, the competitiveness of our products in the market.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for overseeing resource planning and project coordination for new and ongoing projects including supporting the operations within the paint department.
- Lead a team of paint engineers and technicians to ensure all aspects of quality in the paint department.
- Responsible for guiding, supporting and directing a team of engineers and technicians to ensure engagement, development and productivity
- Responsible for planning and driving projects for scrap reduction, cycle time management, material usage and process control in paint process
- Collaborate with Production, Quality, Maintenance and other technical departments to resolve issues and enhance the overall efficiency of Paint process.
- Collaborate with Maintenance department in development and execution of preventive maintenance strategies
- Responsible to develop, maintain and standardize all documentation pertaining to paint process.
- Participate in Continuous improvement activities to reduce part costs and meet COS targets.
- Support SR & ED activities to recover eligible R&D costs.
- Responsible to develop and maintain supplier database for development of new equipment, product or colour
- Lead and prepare for installation of any new paint equipment / provide technical support for launch of new products
- Responsible for managing projects and their timelines to meet departmental targets & company objectives
- Ensure all processes in paint department are complying with engineering standards and safety regulations
Managerial Responsibilities
You are responsible for providing a SAFE workplace for your team members. It is your responsibility to know and understand the regulations that directly relate to your assigned responsibilities. You must also ensure that your team members know and understand the regulations that directly relate to their assigned duties and the workplace.
- Lead Paint engineering meetings to brainstorm ideas and strategies on suggested and approved projects.
- Schedule supervision for project work to be completed within TG Minto
- Submit the project status to management on a defined frequency
- Manage team performance by providing adequate training and resources, conduct yearly evaluations of members within Paint engineering group.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Engineering, Mechanical, Industrial, or a related technical field.
- Minimum 7 years of engineering experience in a high-volume automotive manufacturing environment with proven minimum 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience in Paint environment.
- Solid understanding of paint application systems, automation / robotics, and related processes (e.g., base/clear coat, sealing, curing).
- Project leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with TPM, Kaizen, Lean and Six Sigma Technologies will be an asset
